Milia

By , About.com Guide

About.com Health's Disease and Condition content is reviewed by the Medical Review Board

Definition: Milia are tiny white bumps on the skin, especially on the face. They are often filled with keratin -- a hard, white substance. Unlike blackheads or whiteheads, they don't have an opening on the surface of the skin. Sometimes they disappear on their own, but often they must be removed by flicking them with the tip of a scalpel.
