Scabies is contagious disease caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. The female mite burrows under the skin and lays eggs in the tract she leaves behind. This process causes intense inflammation in the skin producing a rash that is papular with burrows and excoriations. Scabies is treated with pediculicides.
