Definition:
Rocky Mountain spotted fever is a disease caused by the bacteria Rickettsia rickettsii. The bacteria is transmitted to humans by three different types of ticks. It causes a rash with fever, fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes. If not treated with antibiotics, Rocky Mountain spotted fever can be fatal in 30% of cases.
