Definition:

Generalized vaccinia consists of vesiclesor pustulesthat appear on normal skin away from the vaccination site. It is believed that this condition is caused by the spread of the virus in the bloodstream, not direct contact. Prior to 1960, this occurred in 242 people per 1 million people vaccinated.
