As one who suffers from recurrent genital herpes outbreaks, I was also told this by my doctor and now know this was a blanket statement that didn’t include me. I have been told as well that the number outbreaks should subside or lessen after a year or two. But I have averaged 10 outbreaks per year for the past 6 years since I was diagnosed. I have had all kinds of tests run to see if I have an underlying condition. Nothing proves conclusive. I have consulted with doctors, naturopaths, and nutritionists to find the cause of recurrence. I am an otherwise healthy 30 year old. And I am commenting today to say that my first outbreak was very painful, but i can also count on two hands the number of outbreaks since then that have been just as painful. I appreciate the opportunity to comment and share my experience. Because there are many of us out there…

Dear Zoe,

I am just coming out of my first outbreak-I thought I was dying. I’ve never been so sick in my life! I’ve had a non-stop high fever, I first thought I had a terrible UTI, then the bumps, the pain, AAAHHHH! I’ve always been so careful, I don’t know how I got this. When I was told I have genital herpes-I freaked! I wish I felt better-the meds make me woozy. I guess this is it for life huh? Stuck with this terrible virus with no cure. I’m okay now-I just wish it wasn’t so. How did you accept it?

My boyfriend of close to one year tested negative. ive had sexual relationships but using extra precautions! but ive noticed that my genital areas are very sensitive and sometimes after sex ive noticed like a drop or two of blood and i just wanted to know is that normal?

I went to the doctor for my yearly exam and was diagnosed with Herpes. I can’t say if I’ve ever had an outbreak. I do have terrible acne once a month that I didn’t start getting until I turned 30. I also had a disomforting yeast infection last month. I’m not sure if that was my outbreak or not. I really don’t know what to look for if it’s not that obvious.
